The prospects of SAP certification

Q. I am very keen to get into the SAP consultant career. However, my educational background is totally different from IT/computing.

I am a Master of Science degree holder majoring in industrial chemical science.

What are the career prospects available to me if I decide to take up a certification course?

Career advice from Stella Thevarakam, regional HR director of management and technology consulting firm ISS Consulting (M):

Well, you can join an SAP organization's trainees program and take it from there to grow your SAP career. (In Malaysia, for example, a trainee’s monthly salary is usually about RM2,000 or about US$620.)

Alternatively, you can do a certification course directly with SAP. You need to contact the company for course details and costs. With your certification, you can join any SAP organization as a junior consultant and grow from there.

Career prospects are bright if you have the certification and the experience of handling at least two full cycles of implementation. You will be much in demand by SAP organizations.

Dear Sir,
I am having 16 years work experience out of which 8 years are at top management level. I started my career as Customer engineer in a start up Computer hardware networking company. Now the company had grown multifold. I am still working in the same company at top management. For better prospects I would like to switch over to SAP. I am basically a technical person with strong background in Customer Handling and Business Development. Which module will be suitable for me where my current knowledge and exposure are considered? Can you please guide me

Hi Sriram,

Im not sure on how to guide from the years of experience that you have, it really depends on the business needs and i think when it comes to managing, you 'll be more focused on how to handle functional specialists of SAP. Managers are more focused on the people and not on problems on how to configure SAP.

If you have handled business development, the closest module that i can see are material management (MM), sales and distribution (SD) or FICO. These modules work closely together.
